Leptotrichia Buccalis: A Novel Cause of Chorioamnionitis
نویسندگان
چکیده
Intra-amniotic Leptotrichia buccalis has not been previously associated with adverse pregnancy outcome. We report a case of chorioamnionitis and pregnancy loss associated with this primarily oral commensal. We review Leptotrichia buccalis and other oral commensals that have been identified in cases of intraamniotic infection.

Sixty strains of Gram-negative, anaerobic, rod-shaped bacteria from human sources initially assigned to Leptotrichia buccalis (n=58) and 'Leptotrichia pseudobuccalis' (n=2) have been subjected to polyphasic taxonomy. Full-length 16S rDNA sequencing, DNA-DNA hybridization, RAPD, SDS-PAGE of whole-cell proteins, cellular fatty acid analysis and enzymic/biochemical tests supported the establishmen...
متن کاملLeptotrichia buccalis bacteremia in neutropenic children.
Two new cases of Leptotrichia buccalis bacteremia in seriously ill patients were described. The anaerobic, gram-negative microorganism L. buccalis was isolated from blood cultures of two children with severe leukopenia. Anaerobic organisms should be taken into account when a standard protective antibiotic chemotherapy is considered in the immunosuppressed host.

Leptotrichia buccalis was examined by transmission electron microscopy. Its cell wall structure in generally compatible with that of gram-negative bacteria. However, the scale-like membranous folds associated with the external surface of the outer cell membrane appear to be sufficiently unusual to serve as a useful morphological criterion in the identification of L. baccalis cells.

Leptotrichia buccalis (Robin 1853) Trevisan 1879 is the type species of the genus, and is of phylogenetic interest because of its isolated location in the sparsely populated and neither taxonomically nor genomically adequately accessed family 'Leptotrichiaceae' within the phylum 'Fusobacteria'. Species of Leptotrichia are large, fusiform, non-motile, non-sporulating rods, which often populate t...
متن کاملCell wall analysis of oral filamentous bacteria.
The cell wall compositions of 41 strains of oral filamentous bacteria belonging to the genera Fusobacterium, Leptotrichia and Bacterionema were examined by paper chromatography. Leptotrichia walls showed principally alanine, glutamic acid, DAP, glycine and aspartic acid. The genus Bacterionema had the same amino acids but aspartic acid appeared to be a minor component and was not detected in th...
